After nearly 30 years in international non-profit management and finance, Melanie Powers came to NiSHA in her “new” career as a certified animal massage therapist, and has been offering reiki and massage to our shelter guests, and to others in the NiSHA family, for nearly two years.

Melanie has a Masters in Management and completed the three year Law, Policy and Society program of Northeastern University’s law school. A highlight of Melanie’s career was working as the CFO for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, IFAW, for nearly a decade. The passion she encountered from the staff and supporters at IFAW (along with her first rescue dog Schenley) was what formed and solidified the foundation of her commitment to animal welfare.

Melanie lives in Marstons Mills with her husband, son and their two dogs, Gravy and Anya. She is currently learning about running her own business, Sweet Energy Animal Massage and Reiki, while working for and with a number of Cape Cod non-profits, including the Disaster Animal Rescue Team (CCDART).
