Jessica Sosebee, Executive Director
Jessica has been in the animal welfare arena for the past twenty years. She directed a humane society in Mississippi then ran the local MSPCA Adoption Center for ten years. Jessica possesses a graduate degree in political policy with an emphasis on animal welfare issues through George Washington University. Most recently, Jessica has joined the board for Nantucket’s new marine mammal organization (Marine Mammal Alliance Nantucket), and for the past five years has been a District Leader for the HSUS where she can focus on making change for animals on a larger scale through legislation. Jessica was a founding board member of NiSHA and has been thrilled to watch the organization grow. Jessica and Freja (her Mississippi Mutt) love exploring the many gorgeous walks on the island together. And they just welcomed new kitty Juniper to the mix!
Stephanie Henke, Associate Director
A lifelong animal advocate and previous volunteer at humane societies in both Seattle and Maine, Stephanie worked for 7 years as the Project Coordinator for the Nantucket MSPCA Animal Care and Adoption Center. She is a founding board member of Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals and a founding member of Vegan Nantucket. She created and manages Nantucket Dog Walk, a website dedicated to the plentitude of dog walks on our beautiful island. She has worked in the development departments of several non-profits, where she has written grants, managed donor databases, and worn the many hats that go along with small staffs doing great work. She is the companion to two cats and two dogs, each of whom tacitly agreed to share their lives with her.
Andrea Morris, Operations Manager
Andrea grew up on Nantucket with dogs, cats, horses and guinea pigs. Her first job was as a Kennel Attendant at the MSPCA. She has managed a barn in Connecticut, worked as a Veterinary Assistant and owned her own pet sitting company. Andrea is currently attending an online program to receive her certification as a Veterinary Technician. She started at NISHA as a volunteer, was then hired as a caregiver and Technician Assistant. . . and is thrilled to now be in charge of shelter operations. She enjoys going on walking adventures with her two dogs, Diesel and Jackson, and playing agility, nose work and training games with them.
